Below you will find a list of just a few of the major sites that may be of interest.
Guild Of One Name Studies
The Guild Of One Name Studies (GOONS) is the international society for everyone interested in one-name studies. Services available to Guild Members include: Quarterly Journal, Seminars and an annual conference, an e-mail discussion forum, optional registration of their one-name studies, world wide publicity for their registered name, information about one-name studies and contact with members who have accumulated a degree of knowledge and expertise in one-name studies.
Genealogy Home Page
The Genealogy Home Page is a wide-ranging index of genealogy resources on the Internet. It includes links to maps, libraries, software, and societies. You will see that this site is more of a guide to genealogy resources available on the Web than a direct source of genealogical information.
The URL suggestion form at http://www.genhomepage.com/mail.html allows you to submit a URL (web site address) for inclusion on the genealogy home page. If you decide to create your own genealogy web site, this is one way you can announce it to the world.
Roots Web
How would you like a place where you can search hundreds of databases of genealogical material and hundreds of genealogical web pages. as well as subscribe to thousands of mail lists, publish your own page, upload your own data, and create your own mail list? Its called Roots Web.
It is supposed to be the oldest and largest free genealogy site which is supported by Ancestry.com. The Roots Web project has two missions: 1) To make large volumes of data available to the online genealogical community at minimal cost. 2) To provide support services to online genealogical activities such as USENET newsgroup moderation, mailing list maintenance, surname list generation, etc.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Family Search Internet
Another of the largest, at the moment free, genealogical sites on the Internet, in which you can search for the following records: Ancestral file (AF), International genealogical index (IGI), Familysearch internet pedigree resource file, Family history centers (FHCs), Family history library catalog, Family history source guide. All of these are from the LDS (Latter-Day Saints) records.
One can also search non-LDS genealogical web sites from a list compiled by LDS editors, some of which have original source records.
